AROUND TOWN
Ahh, Copenhagen. After visiting Norway, my second visit to a beautiful Scandinavian city confirmed what many had told me, Scandinavia is E.X.P.E.N.S.I.V.E. Before getting into my 10 things to do in Copenhagen, here is what I’ve learned after visiting two of Scandinavia’s Metropolis’:
1) Everything is expensive. Even McDonald’s.
2) Transportation is very good. Not only for people, but for the environment as well.
3) These cities are C.L.E.A.N. (Disclaimer: My bar is low being from New York)
Ok, now that I’ve got that out of my system, let’s get to the 10 Things to do in Copenhagen.
If you’re not familiar with Nyhavn but you know of Amsterdam’s scenic colorful houses along the water well, this is Copenhagen’s version of that. This waterfront canal is lined with a rainbow of houses, history, restaurants and boats. If you’re looking for historic spots, you can check out #9, Nyhavn which is the oldest and has been unaltered from the time it was built in 1681. Also, #20, Nyhavn was where famed Danish author, Hans Christian Andersen, lived when writing many of his fairy tales. If you don’t mind the price tag, you can grab a meal at one of the restaurants lining the strip. However, feel free to get food to go in a smaller shop and munch along the harbor to save money. At the very least, Nyhavn is a great spot for picture perfect photos.
Tivoli Gardens is the second oldest operating amusement park in the world. The reason I enjoyed this cliche tourist site is that it’s different than many of the theme parks around the world (especially in the USA).
