The Waitomo Caves are on the north island of New Zealand. While one may think seen one cave, seen em all, I’ve seen many around the world and this one is one of my favorites. Up there with Blue Grotto in Capri Italy (insert link to post on blue grotto).
The special thing about this cave is its inhabitants, the New Zealand Glowworm. Sounds weird, but it’s really cool. They hang from the roof of the cave, and are luminescent as they move through most of its life cycles (my non-scientific explanation of what’s happening).
Ok, I tried but there was no way for me to make it sound that appealing to the cool kids of the world, so in a nutshell it’s a cave with glowing worms hanging from the roof and it’s AWESOME!
