I’ve been on some really long flights (took almost 24 hours to get to Australia) so over the years, I naturally accumulated a list of things that would make my life easier while away from home. I use this list prior to every trip, and it works for me but as the saying goes "different strokes for different folks" so I won't take it personally if it doesn't work for you. Feel free to add in the comments any long flight essentials not on the list. Let’s make this a living document.
Must Haves:
- Passport/ID
- Money
- Disinfecting wipes (wipe seats, tray, and area around you. You will be surprised at how dirty the wipe is)
- Sunglasses
- Kleenex
- Eye drops: Being in the air for long periods of time can dry you out. If you’re prone to dry eyes you may want some drops
- Comfy socks and/or slippers: You will absolutely want to take your shoes off at some point on the flight. So to make life easier, I usually get bedroom slippers from the dollar store and toss after the flight.
- Compression socks (for really long flights to promote blood circulation in legs)
- Headphones Planes will offer headphones if you forget yours
- Pillow/blanket (airline will provide but if you want something special bring your own)
- Entertainment (ipad, magazine, book)
- Empty sports water bottle: (fill up with water after security)
- SNACKS ON SNACKS ON SNACKS
- Lip moisturizer
- Hand lotion
- For the ladies: Panty liners (helpful for keeping the goods fresh)
- Gum (helps keep your ear pressure together)
- Meds(Because buying meds in another country can be a hassle and expensive)
- Pepto-Bismol
- Tylenol
- Alka-Seltzer
- Emergen-C
- Airborne (definitely take on plane)
- Dramamine (motion sickness)
- Toiletries:
- Baby wipes
- Toothbrush/toothpaste
- Face moisturizer
- Hair tie/scarf
This list is long and most times I don't use everything, just doesn't hurt to be prepared. Happy Travels Friend!
